Project Unity comprises the merger of the University of Manchester and UMIST to form one of the largest Universities in Europe. The merger created circa £400m of construction activity on the campus and RPS was appointed as Mechanical and Electrical Framework Consultant.

RPS provided mechanical and electrical engineering services for the Universities flagship building known as SCAN (Student Centre & Nursing). The development included a new build landmark building to house a number of academic and ancillary functions including:

90,000ft², School of Nursing;

70,000 ft², 1000 Seat Lecture Theatre and Conference Facility for the Faculty of Medicine,

120,000 ft² General Teaching Block

a 50,000 ft² Student Services and Administration Block

a Canteen / Refectory / Kitchens and 300 Student Beds.
