RPS were appointed by Birmingham City Council to undertake structural assessments, fabric and building services condition surveys together with land and soils surveys of schools in the Birmingham area as part of the council’s review for their Building Schools for the Future programme.
The surveys involved inspecting and forming an overview of the condition of the schools to evaluate sustainability, life expectancy, repair budget costs and reconstruction potential.
One of the challenging aspects of the surveys was that they had to be undertaken during school closure periods to minimise health & safety risks. This was successfully undertaken by dedicated teams of specialist surveyors and groundwork operatives within the required timescales and will assist the council in taking an informed view of their schools portfolio requirements.
