IKEA

RPS architects and engineers produced site specific concept design and Employer’s Requirements for IKEA based upon their business requirements and their positive approach to sustainability. This 1.45mft2 was crucial to the delivery of a world class distribution centre adjacent to Junction 4 of the M18.

The building was effectively designed from the inside out, with the design team liaising closely with IKEA to identify their processes. The facility was then designed with a maximum 36m highbay warehouse to accommodate the maximum height cranes possible and house in excess of 313,000 pallet positions.

Technical architectural and engineering support was then provided throughout the process of selecting a Design & Build contractor. RPS led the initial preconstruction design and managed the process of achieving planning approval. Throughout the construction of the facility RPS liaised closely with IKEA and the client’s agent to ensure the facility was constructed in accordance with IKEA’s needs and in line with current standards. This involved close scrutiny of the D&B contractor.
